Damian Marley "There for You" lyrics

Damian Marley brings the same world message his father conveyed throughout his lengthy tenure as the world's top reggae artist. Don't worry; be happy, life is good. "There For You" brings these comforting words to life with the confidence to ensure the listener that someone is there for all of us and all of us have a special person we rely on for comfort. Typically, a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, or a close friend fills this role. Almost everybody across the globe can relate to the lyrics of the song. Love is certainly universal and every culture, country, race, religion understands this emotion. Love exists amongst couples, families, and serious friendships. Marley is ultimately defining love in his message. "There for You" gives the listener a combination of upbeat music, a positive outlook on life, and the definition of love to express true happiness and passion for another person.
The first verse gives guidance in one's life as well as an answer to a negative truth about the world. Each line leads up to the end; "Unconditional love is scarce." The first four lines end with four nouns vital to any loving relationship. Time, thoughts, word, and flesh all are requirements of love. Repetition occurs just prior to these ending words, "...waste of..."; emphasizing the final words of the rhyme by contradicting the beginning. Marley is telling us to avoid all confusion and conflict because these two negative attributes will exist in all people in all places. Love is "unconditional," and "scarce." This description of love at the end of the first verse sets the tone for the entirety of the song. This line sums up the message of the importance of love, Marley's focal point in "There for You."
The theme of love continues in the second verse as Marley wishes the best for his lover. The first three lines again include nouns that contribute to love. The first line focuses on eyes, second, the soul, third, hearts. Three sacred things to each person concerning the senses, the necessity of life, and the afterlife are represented in these well-wishing lines. Each partner wants nothing but the best for their partner, not only in physical health on earth, but after they have passed as well. The first two lines are then repeated with a slight variation; the third line however does not have any change. The differences do not have any substitute for eyes or the soul. He does not switch these important features because they are the key to so many things. Without eyes, a soul, and a heart; life cannot fully go on.
Appreciation for Marley's many different loving relationships becomes apparent throughout the chorus and final verse. You is repeated in nearly every line, but you is not one person. You, however is every person who has had a mutual loving relationship with him. He mentions mama, papa, brother, and sister but the majority of the lyrics reflect a wife or girlfriend's type of love. He mentions his family members because he sees each of their positive qualities in the woman he is talking about. He constantly reassures "you" that their love is mutual and he will love them the same in return.  Nine of the final ten lines begin with "you've always," followed by nine deeds that are proof of love. The final line, "And so I'll be true to you," ends the song with full confidence and appreciation of every person that is "you."
"There for You" is not a typical love song. The overriding theme of the majority of love songs is lust, longing for a loved one, or emfatuation. Marley has a somewhat quiet, solemn respect and appreciation for the people in his life. His words are not overbearing or apparent. He mentions the subtle, in between the lines parts of love. "You gave precious life to me" in the chorus  expresses the necessity of love for Marley. He can live his life because of love. It is his everything. His confidence and dependance on this love gives him life.

DAMIAN MARLEY LYRICS

"There For You"

[Indiscernable voice message]

Tra la la...Tra la la...

La la la...la la

[Verse 1]

Hey!

Vexation of spirit is a waste of time

Negative thinking, don't you waste your thoughts

Verbal conflict is a waste of word

Physical conflict is a waste of flesh

People will always be who they want

And that's what really makes the world go round

Unconditional love is scarce

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

Now and forever more

Forever more, forever more...

YEAH!

[Chorus]

You see, you gave precious life to me

So I live my life for you...You...

You see, you've always been there for me

And so i'll be there for you...You...

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

[Verse 2]

Bless your eyes and may your days be long

May you rise on the morning when His kingdom come

Good deeds aren't remembered in the hearts of men

(.....Oooooooh)

Bless your eyes and may your dreams come true

May you rise on the morning when Jah kingdom come

Good deeds aren't remembered in the hearts of men

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

Now and forever more

Forever more...

[Chorus]

You see, you've always had faith in me

And so i'll have faith in you...You...

You've always been there for me

And so i'll be there for you...You...

Hey!

You've always been good to me

Even when i'm not good to myself

You've always been fair to me

Even when i'm not fair to myself

You've always done right by me

So I will do right by you...You...

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

You've always been there for me, mama

So i'll be there for you, papa

You've always been fair to me, brother

And so i'll be fair to you, sister

You've always had faith in me

And so i'll have faith in you...You..

You've always been good to me

You've always been to kind to me

You've always stood up for me

You've always been there for me

You've always been...oooooh

You've always been...oooooh

You always did care for me...yeh

You always did share with me...yeh

You always been true to me

And so i'll be true to you...
