SMELLY Squirrel

Bridgestone Tires make their mark on the mind of every driver with their fun, exaggerated advertisement emphasizing safety as the main priority. The writers for this commercial working for Bridgestone know how to influence any person looking to buy new tires with this memorable commercial. Not only do the tires have great ability to swerve and grip the road safely at high speeds, saving peoples' lives; they can save the lives of every cute little animal that may be in danger. The ad sticks with every person who has ever seen it because it evokes both ethos and pathos from each viewer. Drivers are confronted with animals in the road on almost a daily basis and everybody knows the feeling of either running over an animal, or immediately after passing the animal and thinking, "did I just squash it?" Pathos lies in the sadness felt by the dominating machine flattening the poor helpless bird, raccoon, or in this case, squirrel. The perspective of the squirrel along with several other onlooking animals is comical because of the human qualities they are given, their little mouths screaming; but sad in the fear they express at the realization of the tragic death of the squirrel. The logic behind the two emotions being evoked appeals to the two different sexes. Men probably relate to the comedic aspect of the commercial and the shear ridiculousness of screaming animals. Women might remember the cute little animals and sympathize with them. Very little language is used, mostly loud screaming for larger animals and quieter screaming for the tinier animals. The message is relayed in a very serious tone at the end and is done in a persuasive, matter of fact way. Bridgestone's commercial was successful because it was memorable. Their message was executed by appealing to several different emotions combined to create a very powerful thirty two second commercial.

Damian Marley "There for You" lyrics

Damian Marley brings the same world message his father conveyed throughout his lengthy tenure as the world's top reggae artist. Don't worry; be happy, life is good. "There For You" brings these comforting words to life with the confidence to ensure the listener that someone is there for all of us and all of us have a special person we rely on for comfort. Typically, a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, or a close friend fills this role. Almost everybody across the globe can relate to the lyrics of the song. Love is certainly universal and every culture, country, race, religion understands this emotion. Love exists amongst couples, families, and serious friendships. Marley is ultimately defining love in his message. "There for You" gives the listener a combination of upbeat music, a positive outlook on life, and the definition of love to express true happiness and passion for another person.
The first verse gives guidance in one's life as well as an answer to a negative truth about the world. Each line leads up to the end; "Unconditional love is scarce." The first four lines end with four nouns vital to any loving relationship. Time, thoughts, word, and flesh all are requirements of love. Repetition occurs just prior to these ending words, "...waste of..."; emphasizing the final words of the rhyme by contradicting the beginning. Marley is telling us to avoid all confusion and conflict because these two negative attributes will exist in all people in all places. Love is "unconditional," and "scarce." This description of love at the end of the first verse sets the tone for the entirety of the song. This line sums up the message of the importance of love, Marley's focal point in "There for You."
The theme of love continues in the second verse as Marley wishes the best for his lover. The first three lines again include nouns that contribute to love. The first line focuses on eyes, second, the soul, third, hearts. Three sacred things to each person concerning the senses, the necessity of life, and the afterlife are represented in these well-wishing lines. Each partner wants nothing but the best for their partner, not only in physical health on earth, but after they have passed as well. The first two lines are then repeated with a slight variation; the third line however does not have any change. The differences do not have any substitute for eyes or the soul. He does not switch these important features because they are the key to so many things. Without eyes, a soul, and a heart; life cannot fully go on.
Appreciation for Marley's many different loving relationships becomes apparent throughout the chorus and final verse. You is repeated in nearly every line, but you is not one person. You, however is every person who has had a mutual loving relationship with him. He mentions mama, papa, brother, and sister but the majority of the lyrics reflect a wife or girlfriend's type of love. He mentions his family members because he sees each of their positive qualities in the woman he is talking about. He constantly reassures "you" that their love is mutual and he will love them the same in return.  Nine of the final ten lines begin with "you've always," followed by nine deeds that are proof of love. The final line, "And so I'll be true to you," ends the song with full confidence and appreciation of every person that is "you."
"There for You" is not a typical love song. The overriding theme of the majority of love songs is lust, longing for a loved one, or emfatuation. Marley has a somewhat quiet, solemn respect and appreciation for the people in his life. His words are not overbearing or apparent. He mentions the subtle, in between the lines parts of love. "You gave precious life to me" in the chorus  expresses the necessity of love for Marley. He can live his life because of love. It is his everything. His confidence and dependance on this love gives him life.

DAMIAN MARLEY LYRICS

"There For You"

[Indiscernable voice message]

Tra la la...Tra la la...

La la la...la la

[Verse 1]

Hey!

Vexation of spirit is a waste of time

Negative thinking, don't you waste your thoughts

Verbal conflict is a waste of word

Physical conflict is a waste of flesh

People will always be who they want

And that's what really makes the world go round

Unconditional love is scarce

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

Now and forever more

Forever more, forever more...

YEAH!

[Chorus]

You see, you gave precious life to me

So I live my life for you...You...

You see, you've always been there for me

And so i'll be there for you...You...

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

[Verse 2]

Bless your eyes and may your days be long

May you rise on the morning when His kingdom come

Good deeds aren't remembered in the hearts of men

(.....Oooooooh)

Bless your eyes and may your dreams come true

May you rise on the morning when Jah kingdom come

Good deeds aren't remembered in the hearts of men

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

Now and forever more

Forever more...

[Chorus]

You see, you've always had faith in me

And so i'll have faith in you...You...

You've always been there for me

And so i'll be there for you...You...

Hey!

You've always been good to me

Even when i'm not good to myself

You've always been fair to me

Even when i'm not fair to myself

You've always done right by me

So I will do right by you...You...

("Till shiloh I shall not forsake thee")

You've always been there for me, mama

So i'll be there for you, papa

You've always been fair to me, brother

And so i'll be fair to you, sister

You've always had faith in me

And so i'll have faith in you...You..

You've always been good to me

You've always been to kind to me

You've always stood up for me

You've always been there for me

You've always been...oooooh

Bug Bitten

The bite may sting, swell, or itch;
somehow that tiny insect always leaves its mark.
The bug gets away every time.

My worst bug bite caused me to twitch.
I could not see this bug coming, for I was in the dark.
The bite may sting swell or itch;

like the horrendous bite I received while I was in a ditch.
The pain felt like I had been bitten by a small shark.
The bug gets away every time.

Many bug bites cause one's skin color to switch.
The bite could be pink, yellow, or leave a scar quite dark.
The bite may sting, swell, or itch;

Scientists researching bites can become rich;
I know a doctor working with mosquitos, Dr. Clark.
The bug gets away every time.

I hate all bugs, especially if their buzzing is a high pitch;
especially when it is just you and the bug, in a room so stark.
The bite may sting, swell, or itch;
the bug gets away every time.

Found Poem

A man took a taxi to the fortune teller under
a luminous moon. He was searching for someone or
something to recover his love life. He was tired of the
one man show. He decided the time had come to find
his pink diamond, his peach parfait, someone to share a
heartbeat with, and tie his ship up at her pearl harbor.
He strutted up to the door, the night was ferrari black.

She hurried him in the house, her red, sequin slippers
scurrying like racing rubies.  She stated her name
and said she didn't have much time. The man cut to the
chase, said he was tired of all the jazz. He said he
was ready to trade his wild thing past for his sterling
silver rose. She immediately responded with a confident
"yes," and said she could feel something great on the horizon.

Setting up Romeo with Juliet was her expertise,
and she could surely get his love life in motion.
She got up swiftly, and excused herself momentarily.
She yelled from behind the wall, "this place is practically a chapel of love."
He was pondering his life in the future when she returned
with a large crystal ball. The ball was truly magical; it
never told a lie. The images in the rose quartz always gave the answer.

Without further delay, the woman began the process.
She rinsed her hands in a bowl of coolwater and cradled
the ball with intense concentration.
There was a blinding flash of fuschia which startled the two.
After regaining their vision, the woman gazed into the ball.
It was still changing, the color settled on blue.  The man, confused,
asked "What is it?" She was shocked to concede, "It's me and you."

I was alone in this great body of water. There was noise, lots of it, but deafening to my ears. My body lay lukewarm inside my sleek, skintight suit; my hands, feet, and head suffering through the numbness. The smell of bacteria rotting multitudes of carcasses penetrated my nostrils with the acrid pungency of death. Young and old surrounded me, waiting for this day; celebrating a sport that I did not understand. As the briny water attacked my lips and eyes, they laughed. A faint rustling in the distance did not catch my attention. Certainly those surrounding me were unaware. Screams were now very apparent. What was once full of perkiness was now drab. Chaos ensued, the ocean proving itself robust. I caught a glimpse and it was a shade of purple. The body floated silently as I fought the grit from the sea water coagulating in the corners of my mouth. My nose burned, it wasn't the smell of fish. The rancid scent should have prepared me. I felt something graze my back. Unbeknownst to all, another lifeless human surfaced among us.
